Academic Probation

Aids students in improving their overall academic performance and meeting the University's standards for Good Academic Standing. Students participate in specialized advising sessions. These sessions help students get to the root of their academic challenges while simultaneously providing them with an extra support system. Through collaboration with the Counseling Department, students are able to participate in a series of workshops geared towards improving academic study skills.

Freshman Probation Requirements (29 credits or less)

Complete the RISE Academy Requirements
Complete one initial probation appointment by the end of the second week of class in (SUB 188)
Complete a mid-semester check-in appointment before the eighth week of class in (SUB 188)
Deadline to complete all probation requirements will be always 2 weeks before the semester ends (unless otherwise specified)

Upperclassman Probation Requirements
(30 credits or more)

Attend all mandatory Academic Probation Workshops based on grade point average

GPA .00 - 1.00 (Complete all 5 Workshops)

GPA 1.01 - 1.99 (Complete any 3 of the 5 Workshops)

Schedule an appointment with the Career Development Center (SUB 230) by calling (773) 995-2327. The student will be required to update and/or complete their resume and must have at least one appointment in the Career Development Center by the specified date given at the beginning of the semester
Complete a mid-semester check-in appointment before the eighth week of class in (SUB 188)
Deadline to complete all probation requirements will be always two weeks before the semester ends (unless otherwise specified

Frequently Used Terms:

Academic Standing

Any undergraduate student will be considered in good standing as long as they maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least a "C" average.

There are four academic standing categories:

good standing
probation
probation continued and
dropped for poor scholarship.

Dismissal for Poor Scholarship

Any undergraduate student can be formally dismissed from 海角社区 for failing to maintain satisfactory academic progress (GPA 2.00 of higher).

Probation

Students who have a cumulative GPA below 2.00 are placed on academic probation. Being placed on academic probation serves as a warning to the student that they have failed to meet or maintain the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy which can be found in the Undergraduate Catalog.

Readmit

Any undergraduate student who has not attended 海角社区 for longer than two years must apply for readmission in the Registrar's Office located in the Cook Administration Building Room 128.

Reinstatement

Former Chicago State undergraduate students who have been dismissed (also referred to as Dropped for Poor Scholarship) from 海角社区 may apply for reinstatement by filing an academic petition with their respective college by the designated deadline. If the college approves the student's academic petition, the student will be reinstated back into 海角社区.

SAP

The Office of Financial Aid tracks the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) of all Chicago State students. All undergraduate students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.00 or better and a completion rate of 67% to be eligible for financial aid. If a student is not in compliance, they may petition to have financial aid eligibility reinstated.
